This Requiem in C minor (Op.97) is for soli, double choir and orchestra and performed September 7th 1799 in memory of Pope Pius VI (27/12/1717 29/08/1799), born as Count Giovanni Angelo Braschi, Pope from 1775 to 1799.
Contributor:Arye Kendi and Herman Ram
Paisiello's Requiem for soloists, double chorus and orchestra (1789) is a moderately large work with an extended sequence that is weakened by being too sectionalized, by too frequent use of uninteresting strophic variation and by static harmony with little richness of colour; there is evidence that Paisiello's funeral symphony is intended to be performed before the Requiem.
