Benedikt Hacker (30/05/1769 - 02/09/1829), an Austrian composer and music editor, born in Metten (Low Austria), died in Salzburg. Pupil of Michael Haydn and Leopold Mozart ; was violinist in a convent choir, and from 1786 to 1802 a clerk in bookshops at Salzburg ; then set up for himself there as a dealer in music. He wrote a comic opera, List gegen List, for male voices, 7 masses, a Requiem, and other church music, and songs.
