Alexandre Étienne [Alexandre] Choron (21/10/1771 - 29/10/1834), a French mathematiker and composer, born in Caen, died in Paris. He directed for a short time the Paris Opera. He played an essential role in France in making a clear distinction between sacred and secular music, and was one of the originators of French interest in musicology.
